Dental Implants
Fort Worth dentist Dr. Mack Snead is an expert in the specialty of dental implants. Dental implants are titanium root substitutes surgically implanted in the upper and/or lower jawbone. The dental implant becomes the anchor for a permanent replacement tooth or complete arch. Dental implants are a safe and permanent solution to tooth loss for Fort Worth citizens who are missing one or more teeth.
Procedure
The dental implant procedure is affordable
and effective. During your initial
consultation with Dr. Snead, x-rays and
impressions of the teeth and gums are
made to determine if dental implants are
the best solution for you. The health of
your teeth and bone will be taken into
consideration when reviewing your case.
Once you and Dr. Snead have determined dental implants are the best solution, a second
appointment is made for the placement of the implant. The titanium implant is placed under
the gum into the jawbone while you are comfortable under local anesthetic. The area is
given about 12 weeks to heal properly, however healing time may vary among patients.
During this time, the bone will grow and become affixed to the titanium post. A temporary
crown, or artificial tooth, is placed over the implant during this period.
After the implant has fully healed, impressions of the teeth and gums are used to create a
permanent crown. The crown is affixed to the implant and the results are fully functioning
teeth with a natural appearance. This procedure will vary slightly depending on whether the
dental implants will replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or a full arch.
Osstem Implants
Dr. Mack Snead uses Osstem Dental Implants. Osstem comes from the word osseointegration,
which is the process by which a surgical implant is anchored into place by the growth of
bone. Osstem is an internationally-renowned company that has pioneered technology to
ensure dental implants are resistant to fatigue and stress. Osstem has also developed
techniques guaranteeing optimum sanitation during the procedure and has created several
different implant systems based on various oral conditions of patients.
